My name is Rachel and I am an Accredited Music Therapist and Counsellor. We may be a good fit if you are navigating some challenges in your life or are searching for a stronger connection to yourself and your identity. I have experienced these challenges myself, and I hope to offer safety and compassion in the therapy space. I believe in a collaborative therapeutic relationship to meet you where you are and work together to address your needs and goals whether they be emotional, psychological, or musical. I place value on working within a humanistic and strengths-based approach with my clients. I work alongside my clients to help discover their inner-strengths and resources to find healing and connection with the self. Music can be a powerful tool to help you make these discoveries and connections!

Music has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember! I began playing the violin at age 7, and I later went on to play with the Singing Strings Youth Orchestra and the PEI Symphony Orchestra. Music helped me through some significant life challenges and was an important aspect of my own personal mental health work. After completing my Bachelor of Music from Acadia University in 2020, I knew that I wanted to transform my personal love of music into a way of helping and connecting with others, and music therapy was the perfect fit. I went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2021 and a Master of Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2023. I currently work within mental health and long-term care, where I have discovered that personal connections to music stay with us across the lifespan, whether you are 10 years old or 100 years old. I look forward to continuing my work within these populations and discovering more valuable insight into the power of music. Outside of my work as a music therapist, I enjoy teaching violin and piano and playing with various community orchestras in the tri-cities area.

The most important aspect of therapy to me is the collaboration. I believe every client has wisdom and expertise to offer. I learn so much valuable insight from my clients! I want to work together to achieve your goals and acceptance of yourself. I know therapy can be intimidating, so I place significant importance on creating a non-judgemental, safe, and comfortable environment.
Music, while an effective tool for many people, can also understandably feel intimidating. While working with me, musical proficiency is the least of my worries. I believe that music is more about your personal connection to it and how it helps form a deeper insight into yourself. There is absolutely no prior musical experience required to participate in music therapy!
While my work often draws on music, I also offer psychotherapy where I draw upon DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness techniques. I always follow the lead of my client according to their individual needs and comfort levels. Some sessions are mostly music, some sessions are only psychotherapy, and many sessions are a combination of the two!
